Tech Tip: Saving & Sharing Searches

Saved Search within Vault is a set of queries based on Vault properties. This can include User Defined Properties and System Properties. These are useful for a variety of Data Management tasks, as in this example where you need to capture files with non-compliant properties.

Once you run a search, you can save the search; it puts it in a folder that will appear at the bottom of your navigation tree. This is great functionality for all Vault and CAD Admins as well. It's a powerful way to quickly access what Vault already knows about your data.

Once you save the search a file is created in the following location (this example uses Windows, Vault Pro 2012):

C:\Users\<username>
\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk
\VaultCommon\Servers\
Services_Security_.....\
<servername>\Vaults\
<nameofvault>\Searches

To share these searches with the rest of your team, simply copy the directory above to other machines. You may consider writing a script to populate these to each user on a regular schedule.

D3 Consulting - D3 Does Inventor ETO in 48 States!

In November, Autodesk granted D3 Technologies a national authorization for Inventor ETO. This means we will be partnering with manufacturers across North America more regularly.

What is Inventor ETO? Glad you asked!

ETO is an acronym for engineer-to-order, and Inventor ETO is the software product that was previously known as Intent. Inventor ETO is specifically targeted at design process and workflow optimization or 'Design Automation'.

These tools go way beyond standard programming. So don't make the mistake of minimizing the importance that it addresses for manufacturers. The results we are having challenge the thoughts of what is really possible.

"Our process has gone from 24 hours to 15 minutes...and I still don't know how you did it"
"...we have gone from 100's of hours to 30 hours"
"From customer order to cutting steel on the shop floor in less than an hour"

Not uncommon remarks for us to hear, but could we do the same for you? If we are not talking about it with you, call us...a simple discussion can determine if it makes sense.
